Showerthought: My barista's comment about a regular customer made me realize the best writing prompts are everywhere
I was at the coffee shop on 4th Street yesterday and heard the barista tell a coworker, 'That guy in the green jacket comes in every Tuesday, orders a black coffee, and writes in a leather notebook for exactly 47 minutes.' That single observation felt like a complete character sketch. It made me stop hunting for 'big' ideas online and just listen to the real world. What's the most random, specific detail you've overheard that sparked a story for you?

Wait, arguing with a vending machine... was he winning or losing that argument? Because I once saw a guy threaten a self-checkout machine at the grocery store, told it he was going to "unplug it from the wall" if it didn't stop giving him an "unexpected item in the bagging area" error. The best part was his girlfriend just standing there nodding like this was a normal Tuesday for them.

Remember that feeling when you're stuck trying to make up something interesting? I was at a bus stop and this woman was telling her friend she only buys yellow socks because they're "impossible to lose in the laundry." That one silly line gave me a whole character who was super organized but also kind of superstitious. It's way better than anything I find when I'm just searching for ideas online. What's a normal place where you've heard a good line lately?
