Prompt jar vs. random word generator: I tested both for a month and one flopped hard
I filled a mason jar with 60 folded prompts on January 2nd and also set up a random prompt site in my bookmarks, then wrote one piece a day from whichever I pulled. By day 30 the jar had given me 24 pieces I actually finished, and the generator gave me 19 half-started drafts I never touched again. The big gap was that the jar prompts were weirdly specific, like "a plumber finds a letter inside a wall at a job in Rochester." A place name and a job gave me a person to write about right away. The generator kept handing me stuff like "write about a secret" and I froze every time. So now I'm wondering, is the jar just better, or did I write 60 prompts that were too good? What's the laziest prompt that ever got you a finished draft?
