100% agree. Eavesdropping is research. Eavesdrop everywhere, the grocery store line is better than any writing class for how people really talk. You get the weird rhythms and the half finished sentences that sound true. My notes app is full of this stuff, just bits of dialogue with no context. It makes characters talk like people, not like actors reading a script.

It's a goldmine for character dialogue. I've started keeping a notes app open on my phone just for that.
