Update: I stopped hiding my roommate's dirty dishes in his bed and I was the jerk the whole time
For about 4 months I had this move where whenever my roommate Marcus left crusty bowls in the sink for more than 2 days, I would stack them on his pillow under his blanket. I thought it was hilarious and honestly pretty fair. He never said a word about it, which I took as him knowing he was beat. Then last Tuesday I got home early from my shift at the tire shop and heard him on the phone with his mom, and he was crying. Not little sniffles, actual crying. He said he thought he was losing his mind because his dishes kept showing up in his bed and he had started setting an alarm at 5am to wash everything so it would stop. That hit me in the gut. The guy works two jobs and sleeps about 5 hours a night, and I had been messing with his head for weeks over some bowls. I walked in and admitted the whole thing right there. He just stared at me and said, why didn't you just ask me to do them. Turns out a simple hey man can you rinse your stuff would have fixed it in one day. Now we split dish duty by day and it has not been a problem since. Anyone else pull a dumb prank on a roommate and have it backfire way harder than you expected?
