Question about the dish rule: did you make your roommate label leftovers or just let it ride?
So my roommate Dave and I had this ongoing fight about leftovers in the fridge on our street in Boise. Around 6 months ago I bought a roll of blue painter tape and a Sharpie and started writing his name on anything he cooked, mainly because he kept eating my chili on a Tuesday when I had already called dibs. He flipped out and said labeling food was treating him like a child, so I offered two options: either we label everything or we go full free for all and nobody owns anything. He picked the free for all and within 9 days he ate my $14 takeout pad thai that I had been saving all day for after my shift. Then when I ate his leftover pizza the next night he got mad and called it disrespectful, which honestly made me laugh out loud. I still think labels are the way to go because it stops the silent resentment, but he swears free for all is more chill if everyone just asks first. Has anyone here landed on a house rule that actually stuck, or do you just hide your food in your room like a gremlin?
Man that pad thai story hurts, I felt that in my soul. The free for all thing only works if both people actually ask first, and Dave clearly proved he won't. Sounds like you already know labels are the move here.
