Watched a guy level a 40 ton crawler crane on a slope with just a 6 foot water level and a hand pump last month

I always thought the digital sensors were the only way to get it precise enough for big lifts, but he had it within a quarter inch at all four corners in under 20 minutes and the load felt smoother than any computer setup I've run before, has anyone else gone back to the old school tools and seen better results?

I've got to push back on that "smoother than any computer setup" part. Modern digital sensors aren't just about precision, they're about consistency and documentation. You can't log a water level reading for insurance or safety audits. Plus, that hand pump method falls apart if the ground shifts even slightly after you set it, or if the operator makes a sudden move. I've seen guys trust old tools and end up with a boom swinging the wrong way because they missed a tiny bubble. Computers give you real-time data and error warnings that a piece of hose can't. That quarter inch might look good at setup, but it doesn't account for dynamic loads the way a digital system can.
