Tried a 180 ton Grove to place a precast panel on a tight site downtown yesterday

Ngl I figured the smaller 100 ton would be fine but the reach and load chart just didn’t work out so the bigger crane barely fit in the alley and I ended up swinging blind because one outrigger was over a utility vault, has anyone else had to call a bigger crane than planned for a tight spot and how’d you handle the setup?

Oh man, steel plates for sure but I had a similar situation last month where we had to swap a 130 for a 200 ton on a tight street job because the load radius was way longer than I mapped out. Ended up cribbing the outrigger over a storm drain with a massive stack of timbers and steel mats, felt sketchy but it worked out fine after we double checked the ground pressure.

Toss some steel plates under that outrigger and call it a day.
