TIL my hand signal for 'lower slowly' was wrong for 3 years

Honestly, I was on a site in Tampa and the rigger asked me over the radio why I kept using a closed fist for 'lower'. He said the standard is a flat hand moving down. I'd been taught the fist by my first foreman. Which way did you learn, and do you think the old school signals are still okay?

Man, that's wild. I learned the flat hand for lower too, but I've seen the closed fist on some union sites up north. Honestly, I think the old signals are fine as long as your whole crew is on the same page before you start. The real problem is when guys mix methods on the same job.
