Saw a tower crane working on a new building in Portland last week
They had the load swinging way too much for that wind, and it made me realize how much you feel the weather in your gut after a while. Anyone else get that specific tension when you see a pick that just doesn't look right?

Portland cranes always seem to have a wobble lately. Grant.richard is right about that pucker feeling, it's your brain seeing the physics go wrong. You just know someone's having a real bad day up in that cab.

And they just left it swinging like that? That's a full on pucker moment right there. You can see the whole rhythm is off, like the operator is fighting it instead of working with it. That gut feeling is your brain recognizing a problem before you can even name it. I wouldn't want to be the guy on the radio telling them to reel it in.

Yeah that gut feeling is no joke. Jade3 is spot on about seeing the physics break down, it's like watching a bad dance partner. Seen a flatbed swing once where the driver kept overcorrecting, just made the whole trailer rock worse. You gotta let it settle and nudge it back, not fight the sway. That radio call would be pure stress.
