PSA: I thought the load chart app on my phone was a gimmick until a job in Tacoma proved me wrong
For years I kept a laminated chart book in the cab and told every green operator that a phone app was for guys who never had a boom flex on them. Then last spring I took a tilt-up job in Tacoma with a 90 ton and the site super kept changing picks on me, so I loaded up one of the apps and punched in my radius and boom angle. It matched my book within about 1 percent on every pick, and it flagged a capacity number I had read off the wrong column after a long day. Now I am torn, because half of me says a screen can die, a book cannot, and the other half says I would have blown that pick without the app. What is the real risk here, guys, do you trust the phone in the cab or do you still run the paper chart no matter what?
