Old foreman taught me to feel the load before lifting

Back in 2008 I was working a high rise job in Pittsburgh. This old foreman named Joe walked over while I was checking my rigging and told me to put my hand on the cable before I took tension. He said you can feel the vibration and tell if something's uneven before the load ever leaves the ground. That one trick saved me from tipping a bundle of steel beams about 6 months later. Any of you guys still do that or is it just an old timer thing now?

Ha, I still try it but half the time I just end up guessing wrong!

That "half the time" thing @paige_martin, its probably more like you're right more often than you think. People remember the wrong guesses way clearer than the right ones. Just a bias thing, happens to everyone.

Eighty percent of the time you're probably right though, @paige_martin.
