Just had a main hoist brake fail on a tower crane in Phoenix
It was during a routine lift of some steel beams yesterday afternoon, and the load started drifting down on its own. I hit the emergency stop and used the secondary brake to get it under control, then called for a full shutdown. Has anyone else dealt with a sudden brake failure like that, and what's your first move after securing the load?

Honestly, that emergency stop might have been an overreaction. Sometimes a little drift is normal and the secondary systems would have caught it without the panic move. A full shutdown for what could be a minor hiccup costs everyone time and money.

Wouldn't that just train the crew to ignore real problems down the road?

Nah you probably overreacted, those secondary brakes are designed for that exact situation.
