How a three-hour delay shifted my crane ops mindset

I would get mad when jobs got held up. Last week, we had to wait for a safety check, and I was fuming. That check found a small crack in a hook. If we had rushed, it could have been bad. Now I see that waiting can save lives, so I'm all for taking the time to do things right.

Man, that really hits home. We lost most of a morning once waiting on new rigging gear to show up, and everyone was grumbling about the schedule. Turns out the old slings we would have used were way more worn than anyone thought. That delay felt like a pain then, but now I just see it as cheap insurance. It really does change how you see those holdups.

Our foreman called a stop for a gear check last month. Found a crack that would've failed under load.
