Got called out for my old way of spotting...

An old hand at a job in Tacoma last year said my hand signals were 'too fast and sloppy' for the distance I was working at. I slowed everything down and started holding each signal for a full three count, and the difference in smooth lifts was huge. Anyone else get a piece of feedback that really stuck with them?

Tacoma last year"? That's a long time to hold a grudge.

Wasn't it actually just this past spring though?

Nina, I get what you're saying but honestly the timing thing is kind of funny to me. A few years back I had this guy on a crew who insisted on using the old school whistle system for crane signals, even though nobody under 40 knew what they meant. We ended up losing half a day because he'd blow two short bursts and everyone just stared at each other like confused dogs. Your mileage may vary, but I've found that sometimes the feedback that seems the most nitpicky ends up being the stuff that actually saves your back or your gear down the line.
