Chat with an old rigger changed how I set up my picks
Was talking to a guy who's been doing this since the 80s, and he told me he always factors in wind speed at the hook height, not just ground level. I'd been ignoring that for years and it cost me a near-miss on a job in Chicago two weeks ago. Anyone else get advice that made you rethink a basic habit?

Did he also tell you about how the wind shifts when it hits the side of a tall building? That's the stuff that really caught me off guard, especially in a place like Chicago with all those corner gusts. Now I always double-check my readings against a local weather station before I even start.

You ever notice how the same kind of thing pops up in other stuff? Like, I started paying attention to the gaps between what people plan for and what actually happens, whether it's weather or traffic or even just how long a project really takes. Seems like the pros always have that one extra detail that saves them from the trouble most of us just stumble into.
