Boom angle indicator failure on an old Grove
Had to pick between swapping the sensor myself or calling the dealer for a $400 service call. I grabbed a multimeter, traced it to a broken ground wire behind the cab, and fixed it in 20 minutes. Anyone else dealt with those finicky analog gauges on the older machines?

Man you saved yourself a chunk of change there. Did you have to pull the cab apart much to get to that ground wire? I’ve chased bad grounds on a few older Grove cranes and it’s always a pain but feels good when you find it. Those analog gauges are touchy for sure, they’ll drive you nuts if you don’t know what to look for. Good on you for sticking with it and not just calling the dealer right away.

Forty seven dollars for the multimeter versus four hundred for the dealer call. That math was easy. Made the old Grove give me a guilty look when the needle snapped back to life.
