A 30 year guy in Houston said rigging is all feel. I think he was wrong.
Honestly I still think about this one guy from a job site outside Houston about 8 months ago. He had 30 years on me and swore up and down that you rig a load by feel, that charts and angle numbers are for guys who never touched a hook. We were setting steel panels, about 4,000 pounds each, and he kept waving me off when I checked my rigging angle. Ngl it bugged me. One panel shifted on him maybe an inch and a half and he just shrugged it off like that was normal. I get respecting experience, I really do, but feel does not tell you what a 45 degree sling angle does to your tension. That is math, not vibes. Tbh I think that old school attitude is how guys get hurt. Has anyone else worked with a hand who trusts feel over the chart, and how did you deal with it?
