Talked to a friend who labels her controllers and now I feel dumb

So I was over at my buddy Sarah's place last week helping her set up her new TV stand. She pulled out a bin of old Xbox One controllers and every single one had a little sticker on the back with a name like "Blue Racer" or "Party Pad". She said she started doing it after a LAN party where four people grabbed the wrong controller and spent 10 minutes untangling cables. It hit me that I've got three identical black PS4 controllers in my closet and I can never tell which one has the drifting stick. Has anyone else got a cheap system for keeping track of which controller is which?

My buddy Dave used to have the same problem with his Switch Pro controllers. He finally started using different colored thumb grips from Amazon, like a five pack for eight bucks. He color coded them to his kids so red was for his youngest, blue for the middle, and green for the oldest. Now if someone's controller starts acting up he knows exactly whose it is without having to ask. Pretty simple fix honestly.

Totally agree with you @the_michael, color coding is such a lifesaver. I did the same thing with my nephews after I kept finding drift issues and couldn't tell whose was whose. I grabbed a cheap set of rubber grips in neon colors, snapped them on each controller, and now I just ask "who's the blue one?" when it starts acting wild. It stops the bickering over who broke what and saves me from having to inspect every stick for wear. Honestly, eight bucks and five minutes of setup beats buying new controllers every few months.
