Spent two years coiling every controller cable the same way, and a $12 velcro strap finally showed me why my drawer was a mess
I keep my whole setup in a little closet under the stairs in my apartment and for the longest time I wound every controller and HDMI cable into tight little loops, all the same size, thinking that was just how you do it. Last month I was digging for a spare PS2 pad and pulled out a loop that had basically become a permanent spring, and it hit me that I had been fighting my own drawer for two years. What tipped me off was a buddy's setup, he had these flat velcro straps about 10 inches long and his cables lay in loose wide loops, nothing tied tight. He said the tight coils put all the bend in the same two spots and that is where they die, which honestly made sense the second he said it. So I grabbed a pack of velcro straps for $12 at the hardware store on the corner and redid the whole drawer in one night with fat loops and one strap per cable. The drawer closes on the first try now and I swear nothing has tangled since. Is there a loop size you all aim for, or do you just go as wide as the drawer allows?
