Saw a guy cram 40 game cases on one shelf and it hit me: people think depth is free
Visited a buddy's apartment in Berkeley last month and his shelf was so deep that the back half of every case row was just gone. He had 40 games on one shelf and could only reach maybe 15 of them, so the rest were basically storage he never touched. The thing people get wrong is treating shelf depth like extra room when it really just makes two rows where the front one blocks the back. I pulled everything out, put his cases in one row set flush to the front edge, and he found three games he forgot he owned. What's your rule for shelf depth versus how much room you actually need?
