Found out the average gamer owns 42 controllers and now I'm staring at my closet like it's a crime scene
I was scrolling through a decluttering forum last Tuesday and someone linked a 2023 survey from a gaming site that said the average player has 42 controllers and only uses 2 of them. 42. I laughed, then counted mine and got to 19, and that was BEFORE I checked the bin under my bed. Here's the scary part, I found 6 with stick drift, 4 with dead batteries, and 2 that still had the plastic wrap on from a Black Friday deal in 2019. My closet rod is bending in the middle from hanging bags of tangled cables and headsets, and I keep telling myself it's fine because I can still close the door. It's NOT fine. I pulled everything out, laid it on the floor, and the pile was wider than my couch. I'm not saying you need to toss your collection, but if you haven't counted your extras in the last year, do it today before something snaps. How many do you actually have plugged in right now?
The line about the closet rod bending in the middle got me because that's how it always starts, one spot that can't take the weight anymore. I've noticed this same thing with phone chargers, kitchen gadgets, even shoe boxes, where we keep buying the thing we already own because the old one is buried somewhere we forgot to look. The pile isn't the problem, it's that nothing has a home, so every new buy is really just a replacement for something lost in the mess. My rule now is if it doesn't have a spot, it doesn't come in the house, and that alone cut my extras almost in half.
