Turns out we were holding the controllers wrong for Mario Kart drifting

My buddy and I have been playing Mario Kart 8 for like 2 years and always losing at 150cc. Last weekend his little cousin comes over and shows us you can drift by just tilting the controller instead of using the shoulder buttons. We tried it for about 20 minutes and instantly got better times on Rainbow Road. Has anyone else found a weird control trick that made a game way easier?

lol i always figured the motion controls were just a gimmick for little kids, but honestly this kinda makes me want to give them another shot. i remember writing off the tilt steering in like mario kart wii because it felt too loose, but maybe i was just bad at it. the way you describe it sounds way more natural than mashing the shoulder buttons especially on tight turns. might dust off my switch tonight and see if i can finally beat my friend's time on toad's turnpike.

tilt steering in mario kart wii was actually pretty tight if you calibrated it right" lol but yeah the joycons are way more responsive than the wiimote ever was, give it another shot
