My whole game night crashed because of a busted Switch dock

We were set for a 4-player Overcooked 2 session last Friday when the dock just stopped sending a signal to the TV. I tried three different HDMI cables and even my friend's TV, but nothing worked. Had to scramble and dig out my old Wii U to save the evening. Anyone know a good fix for a bricked dock, or is it just time to buy a new one?

Had the same thing happen right before friends came over. I opened up the dock and found the main board had a tiny crack near the HDMI port. Ordered a replacement board for like fifteen bucks and swapped it in twenty minutes, works perfectly now. It's way cheaper than a whole new dock if you're okay with a small screwdriver. Just make sure you get the right board model for your dock.

Oh man, that's a classic dock failure. Those things almost never fully "brick", they usually just need a new internal board. You can find cheap replacement circuit boards online that fix the HDMI issue.

Rayc38's story about the twenty minute fix is way more impressive than what I'd do. I'd probably spend an hour hunting for the right screwdriver, break something else in the dock, and end up with a pile of plastic parts on the floor. Then I'd have to admit defeat and buy a new one anyway, which is basically the story of every DIY project I've ever attempted. Really wish I had rayc38's patience and steady hands. The cheap board trick is solid advice though, assuming you don't treat the repair like a bull in a china shop like I would.
