I finally gave up on trying to make modern 'shared screen' co-op work and went back to a true split-screen classic.

My friends and I tried playing that new racing game, the one that says it has 'couch co-op' but just puts both cars on the same screen. It was a total mess. The camera kept zooming out so far we couldn't see our own cars, and someone would always get left behind and just vanish off the edge. Last weekend, I dusted off my old Xbox 360 and popped in Halo 3. The second that vertical split-screen hit the TV, it was like night and day. Everyone had their own clear view, no more fighting the camera, and we actually had a fun night. These new games are trying to be clever but they just ruin the fun. Why do developers think a shared camera is better than a clean split? Has anyone found a recent game that actually does proper split-screen right?

Totally feel you, we just went back to Borderlands 2.

Wait, doesn't Borderlands 2 have that same shared screen zoom-out problem? I remember it being a mess with four players. Good call on Halo 3 though, that split-screen just works.
