Heads up: the local game store demo station is now a death trap for controllers
I stopped by Game Haven last Saturday and watched three people in a row rage-slam the same beat-up Xbox pad during a Cuphead run, so check the stick drift before you hand your kid that thing, has anyone else seen worse setups at their local shops?

I saw a post on a local gaming Facebook group last week where someone took a photo of a store controller held together with duct tape and a zip tie, and the thumbstick had literally worn down to the plastic nub. It got a bunch of replies from people sharing their own horror stories, like one guy who said the shoulder buttons on his shop's pad made a crunching noise every time you pressed them. That Cuphead setup sounds rough though, stick drift on a rage game is basically a guaranteed throw combo. Your best bet is to ask the staff if they have a backup pad behind the counter, my shop usually swaps them out if you just ask nicely.

Ever tried tapping the counter button twice? That worked for me once.
