Found out my buddy and I have been playing Cuphead wrong for 2 months

So we've been grinding through Cuphead on the same couch every Friday night. Last week I randomly looked up the parry mechanic online and realized hitting the pink stuff isn't just for style points, it actually fills your super meter faster. I found this on a wiki page buried in the game's tips section. Has anyone else stumbled onto a basic mechanic way late like this?

Wait... @paige_martin said you guys treated the pink stuff like a weird collectible for 2 months? That's exactly what we did too! My buddy and I just thought it was like a bonus thing you grabbed for no reason. We didn't even realize it filled the super meter until we saw some YouTube video where the guy kept hitting pink stuff and then popped a special attack like five seconds later. I felt so stupid when it clicked. Now we're all over it but man those early boss fights could've been way easier.

Man, the game really should have a big flashing sign that says "HIT THE PINK STUFF OR YOU'RE PLAYING WRONG." My buddy and I went two whole months just treating the pink stuff like a weird collectible... we felt so dumb when a random Reddit thread clued us in. At least your Friday nights are about to get way more intense now that you're actually using the right mechanic.
