After 4 failed attempts, my kids finally beat me at Mario Kart tonight

I used to swear by the classic rule that my wife and I always got first and second place, no matter what. But last night my 9 year old hit me with a blue shell right at the finish line on Rainbow Road and my 11 year old snuck past on the last curve. First they started trash talking, then they demanded a rematch, and after four races straight I realized they actually learned the item timing and shortcut paths. I was so used to holding back that I forgot they've been grinding this game for two months.
