Warning: my homemade beeswax food wraps turned into a 3 week sticky mess
I saw a cute post about making your own wax wraps with cloth scraps, beeswax, and jojoba oil, so I grabbed a $12 block of wax and got to work. My first batch glued itself into one giant wad because I used a cheese grater on cold wax and the shavings clumped up on the parchment. Then I melted everything in a double boiler on my stove in Boise and my kitchen smelled like a candle factory for 4 days straight. It took me 3 whole weekends and ruined 2 dish towels before I figured out you need to brush the wax on thin and iron it between sheets instead of pouring. Now I have 6 wraps that actually work, but does anyone know how to get the wax smell out of a wooden spoon?
