Vent: spent 4 hours trying to get an old glass jar label off with soap and water before my wife handed me the peanut butter

I was saving a big pickle jar for dry beans and the paper label would not budge. Soaked it in hot water and dish soap for two rounds, scraped at it with a butter knife, and still had glue smeared all over the glass. Took it out to the garage and tried a razor blade, which helped a little but kept skipping. My wife walked by and said to rub a spoon of peanut butter on the sticky part and let it sit 20 minutes. It wiped right off with a rag. Four hours of my Saturday for something that took her half a minute to fix. The oil in it just breaks the glue down, apparently. What else do you keep around the kitchen that works better than the store bought stuff for this kind of mess?
