My thrifted cast iron skillet cost $8 and it flaked rust into my eggs for six weeks before I figured out seasoning
Turns out you have to strip the old seasoning off with vinegar and a steel wool scrub before re-seasoning, not just wash it - anyone else waste weeks on crusty skillet eggs?

Honestly I did the same thing with a carbon steel wok I picked up for five bucks, spent a month wondering why everything tasted like a broken bike chain. Tbh the moment I finally scrubbed it down and reseasoned it properly I felt like a fool for not just Googling it sooner.

Man, isn't it wild how we'll just tough through something for way too long instead of taking five minutes to look it up? I feel like that's the story of my life in little ways, like using the wrong setting on my phone for months because I was too stubborn to check the manual. It's like we all have this instinct to just muscle through instead of admitting we might be doing it wrong. But once you finally figure it out, you wonder how many other dumb mistakes you're still making without realizing. What's something else you've been putting off fixing that probably has a simple answer?
