My grandma told me to put a bay leaf in my flour bin and I thought she was kidding
She swore it would keep weevils out of my pantry. I laughed it off for a year, then found little bugs in my all-purpose flour bag from the bulk bin at the co-op. After tossing that bag (and feeling gross), I dropped two bay leaves in my new container. Six months later (no joke), I haven't seen a single bug. Has anyone else gotten old-school advice like this that actually works?

Toss a couple dried bay leaves in your flour and rice containers too. It's the same principle and keeps the pantry bugs out without any chemicals.

Wait, have you actually tried this with bay leaves specifically or just heard about it? I started doing it a couple years ago after a weevil outbreak in my oatmeal and it actually works pretty well. I use 2-3 leaves in my flour bin and swap them out every few months when they start smelling less strong. Just make sure they're not too old or crumbly or they won't do anything. The bugs still try crawling in there sometimes but they don't stick around long.
