Hit 50 jars of home-canned tomatoes this weekend and it hit me different

I was just stacking them on the shelf in the pantry, all these mason jars with the little handwritten labels, and I stopped at 50. Didn't plan to hit that number, it just happened after a summer of buying boxes from the farmer's market near my place in Ohio. Each one is like a little memory of a Saturday afternoon with the windows open and the smell of basil and vinegar. I didn't think I'd care about a specific count, but seeing them all lined up made me feel like I actually did something real, you know? Like all that effort paid off in a way that's hard to explain. Did anyone else get surprised by a random number like that from a project or a habit you didn't think mattered?

Fifty jars of tomatoes and you just now realized you've been prepping for the apocalypse, huh?

Is the apocalypse in the room with us right now? I mean fifty jars of tomatoes is a lot of spaghetti sauce but it could also just mean you really like tomatoes or you got a good deal at the farmer's market. People act like stocking up on canned goods makes you some kind of survivalist but my grandma had a pantry full of that stuff and she was just trying to save a few bucks during sales. Not everything has to be about the end of the world you know. Maybe we should all calm down a notch before we start calling normal grocery hauls doomsday prep.
