Had to rescue my basil plants after that surprise frost last night

I woke up at 5am and saw the thermometer on my porch reading 28 degrees. Threw an old bedsheet over my whole herb box and used rocks to hold down the corners. Did anyone else lose plants to this cold snap?

Wait, you're telling me that frost is a thing that actually happens and not just something I read about in gardening books online? I always thought my basil would just naturally know to put on a little jacket or something.

You ever had one of those nights where you're sure you covered everything and then wake up to a bunch of sad, droopy leaves? Had a vegetable garden one fall and thought I'd get away with one more week. Woke up to everything looking like it went through a freezer. Now I just watch the forecast closer and throw an old bedsheet over stuff if it's gonna dip below freezing.
