Had to pick between a cast iron skillet and a dutch oven for my tiny kitchen
I only had space for one big cooking piece, so I went with the cast iron skillet about 6 months ago. It works for bread, stews, and even baking pie, but I still miss having that deep pot for soup days. Anyone else make a similar swap and regret it?

Ngl, I feel your pain on this one. I had to give away my dutch oven when I downsized and kept the skillet, and honestly I still kick myself sometimes. There's just something about how deep that pot lets you simmer chili or stew for hours without worrying about splashing everywhere. The skillet does a lot of things well but soup days hit different when you're stuck with a shallow pan. I almost caved and bought a cheap dutch oven last month just for that reason. Solidarity, friend.

Oh man, I've been there! A good trick is to hit up thrift stores or estate sales for a cheap enameled one, they're usually like 20 bucks and work just as well for soups.
