Had a neighbor yell at me for hanging laundry on a line instead of using a dryer

I was out back last summer stringing up my sheets and this older woman from three doors down walks over and says I'm making the neighborhood look 'backwards.' Said dryers are modern and lines are for poor folks. But I make my own lavender soap and grow my own herbs too. Would you keep drying outside if a neighbor complained or just fold and use the machine?

Wow, that's a whole lot of nerve from someone three doors down. So did she stand there watching you hang the laundry, or did she track you down specifically to complain? I'm wondering what else she's got opinions on, like if she stalks your herb garden too.

Yeah, but honestly I can kind of see where the neighbor is coming from. If somebody hung up laundry that dripped water all over my walkway or shared fence line, I'd probably say something too. You never really know what's going on in someone else's head, maybe she's got sensory issues or just really particular about the appearance of the street. I've had neighbors who hung up some really ratty looking stuff that made the whole block look worse, not that I ever said anything myself. Your mileage may vary on this one, but sometimes people making a complaint have a point even if they come off rude.
