Found that putting pantyhose over rain barrels keeps mosquitoes out
Woke up to a cloud of them last spring near my barrel in the backyard. Tried oil and dunks but they kept coming back. A neighbor from down the street said her grandma used old pantyhose pulled tight over the top. Cut the legs off a worn out pair, stretched them over the opening, and tied it with twine. No more larvae floating around after that. Has anyone else tried something like this for keeping bugs out of water storage?

That reminds me of my uncle who used his wife's stockings to strain paint and swore by it.

Did he ever try it on an actual paint job that needed to look good, or was it just for random projects around the house?
