Can we talk about using old tea tins for seed starting?
I thought it was just a cute picture thing, but my basil sprouted in a week after poking holes in a tin from last Christmas. Anyone else try this with different plants?

My grandma always started her tomato seeds in old tins. She swore the metal kept the soil warmer than plastic pots. I tried it last spring with some pepper seeds. They did germinate faster than the ones in the little plastic trays. Just make sure those drainage holes are big enough. Rust can be a problem if you leave them wet for too long.

Tried that with coffee tins once, but the rust got them before the seedlings could.

Yeah rust is a killer. I always hit old cans with a clear coat spray paint inside and out before I use them.
