Went to a salon in Nashville last month and noticed everyone skipping the toner step
I was visiting my sister in Nashville and stopped into this busy salon near 12 South to grab some product. The stylist there was working on a blonde balayage and she just slapped the color on, rinsed it, and sent the client off to dry. No toner at all. I asked her about it and she said half her clients are asking for that 'lived-in' look where they skip the gloss or toner completely. I get that it saves time and product, but the brassiness I saw coming through on some of those heads was pretty rough. Maybe it's just me but I feel like toner is the step that makes a color job look professional and polished. Are you guys seeing more clients request no toner or is this just a regional thing?

Are these clients actually coming back in a month or two really unhappy with the brass, or do they just not care?

Man, I gotta jump in here. @mason_knight is right that toner matters, but that's dodging the real question. Are these people actually coming back complaining? Or is everyone just assuming they will? My gut says most clients don't notice the difference once it's on their face, unless you mess up bad. The ones who care about brass are usually the same ones who expect a full refund for any tiny flaw. So who's actually hurting your business here? The picky repeat customer or the one-and-done client who never says a word?
