Took me 4 years to realize I was filing nails wrong the whole time
I've been a nail tech for a while now, and I always filed back and forth like a saw. Figured that was just how you do it. Last month a client asked why her nails were peeling so bad after a fill, and I had nothing to say. My mentor happened to drop by the salon and saw me working, she told me to file in one direction only. Turns out the back and forth motion causes micro-fractures in the nail plate, which leads to peeling. Has anyone else relearned a basic skill way later than they should have?

Some people's nails peel no matter how you file them.

Is it just me or is that kind of like how some people's hair just won't hold a curl no matter what product they use? You see it in cooking too, some people can follow the same recipe and their bread comes out flat every single time. It's almost like there's a hidden rule we all have these little things that just don't cooperate with us. Fingernails, hair, even how our skin reacts to different foods, it's all part of that same stubborn puzzle.
