Shoutout to the stylist who showed me her color correction process

I watched a coworker at my salon in Denver fix a client's box dye disaster last month. The client had orange banding from a home black dye over bleached ends. My coworker did a soap cap with a level 7 neutral and 10 volume, left it for 15 minutes, then did a full highlight. The before and after was wild, it went from a patchy mess to a really soft bronde balayage. She said the key was not trying to lift all the color at once. Has anyone else found a gentler method for fixing that specific orange banding issue?

That's a great fix. It reminds me of how the best solutions often come from working with a problem, not forcing it.

Totally agree with @nathan289. A color remover first saves so much time.

Three times this month alone I've watched people strip red dye off furniture before it finally took a light gel stain. It's like with those box dyes where everyone skips the removal step then wonders why their roots are orange... @nathan289 you nailed it about working with the problem instead of fighting it. That approach applies everywhere, like when I'm trying to get old glue off a shelf and realize scrubbing harder just makes it stick worse.
