Shoutout to my old mentor, Janet, for being right about shears
Honestly, when I first started at the salon in Dayton, she told me to invest in a good pair of Japanese shears and not just use the cheap ones from the beauty supply. I thought she was being extra, but I saved up and bought a $250 pair of Yasaka shears about five years ago. Ngl, the difference in how they hold an edge and feel in my hand is night and day, and I've never had to replace them. Anyone else have a tool they were told to splurge on that actually paid off?

My wife's a hairdresser and I still tease her about the "shear shrine" in her kit. She spent a month's tips on a single pair and I thought it was nuts, but she's had them for a decade now. Guess the joke's on me.

Sounds like a cult for scissors. A month's tips is wild even if they last.

That "shear shrine" line got me, do you think high-end shears really last that much longer than the mid-range ones?
