PSA: I was overfilling my foils for highlights for years until a client pointed it out.
I always thought more bleach meant brighter results, so I was piling thick stripes onto foils. Last Thursday, a regular named Jenna asked why her roots looked brassy after just 3 weeks, and I realized the excess was bleeding onto uncolored hair. Has anyone else had a similar wake-up call about their technique from a client's comment?

Thinner slices changed everything for me too.

Laura's right about thinner slices. That's a game changer once you get the hang of it. The key is remembering that the bleach doesn't need to be thick to lift the color, it just needs to be placed precisely. I switched to using a fine-tooth comb to weave out smaller sections, and my highlights came out way more natural looking. Also stopped getting those weird hot roots that show up a month later. It takes a little more time upfront, but the results last so much longer it's worth the trouble.
