Had a similar thing happen last year during a prom session when my old wand started smoking out of nowhere. I ALWAYS keep a travel-sized hairspray and bobby pins in my kit for quick fixes. When the curls fell, I pinned them up into a cute updo instead. Used the backup iron for some pieces, but mostly relied on texture spray and clever pinning. Having a plan B for tools AND style is KEY.
