Moral gray area: Coloring a kid's hair with strong chemicals feels WRONG to me, but everyone at my salon says it's fine.

Look, salons have way stricter rules for kids' treatments than adults. They use gentler formulas, do patch tests, and parents have to okay it. For some kids, a fun hair color is a huge confidence boost, like letting them pick their clothes or play a sport. It's not much different than parents letting kids in dance competitions use heavy makeup and hairspray for routines. If it's done safely and the kid wants it, it can be a really positive thing for their self image.

Tbh, comparing hair dye to dance makeup doesn't sit right with me. That stuff washes off, but hair color sticks around and can really change how other kids treat them at school. Honestly, even gentle formulas are still chemicals on a kid's head, which feels risky. It's more about social pressure than just a confidence boost.

My cousin's daughter got a small blue streak at age 10, and the salon used a vegetable-based dye that washed out in two weeks. It was a huge deal for her after she'd been bullied, and it actually stopped the teasing because she owned it. Sometimes a small, safe change can really help a kid feel in control.
