Just realized my curling iron was frying my hair for 6 months

Found out my old iron was hitting 450 degrees even on the lowest setting after I noticed my ends looking like straw. Anyone else had a tool suddenly go rogue like that?

My straightener did the same thing last year. I have naturally wavy hair that I was trying to tame, and after a few weeks it looked like I'd been on a bad hair dye bender. The kicker is I even bought one of those infrared temp guns to check it because I was convinced it was just my imagination. Nope, it was hitting 430 degrees on the lowest setting. So I spent 6 months basically cooking my hair for nothing. My hair is still recovering, honestly.
