I was reading an old beauty school textbook and found a wild fact about hair dye
Honestly, I was just flipping through this textbook from 1998 that I got at a yard sale. It said that back in the 1950s, some hair dyes had lead acetate in them to make the color last longer. I had no idea they used to put actual lead in hair color. It made me think about how much the formulas have changed for the better. Has anyone else come across any old-school beauty facts that shocked them?

I mean, did the book say if people knew it was toxic back then?

They absolutely knew. The book goes into detail about the company's own doctors warning them for years. Workers were getting sick, and they just ignored it. It's not like it was some mystery, they had the reports on their desks. Makes you wonder how many people got hurt because of that choice.
