I always thought a 20 minute bleach process was fine for stubborn roots

A regular client came in with her hair snapping off at the line of demarcation after I did her touch up, and she said her scalp had been tingling a lot during the service. I looked it up and found a chart showing that bleach can lift 7 levels in under 30 minutes, so I was basically just cooking her hair for no extra gain. How do you all time your lightening services to avoid this kind of damage?

Omg, that chart is a total game changer. My friend had the same thing happen, she was leaving bleach on for like 25 minutes thinking it was fine. Her client's hair got so mushy it just melted off during the toner. Now she sets a timer for every 5 minutes to check the stretch, and she never goes past the point where it stops getting lighter. It completely changed how she does blondes.

Wait, were you checking the hair's condition during the process?

@jade3 honestly most people forget to check for heat damage while the bleach is still on.
