Hot take: most stylists are mixing their color 10 volumes too strong for gray coverage
I was at a color class in Dallas back in March and the educator asked who mixes 20 volume for gray coverage, and every hand in the room went up. She pulled up a client chart showing how 20 volume lifts the cuticle and dumps too much pigment on resistant gray, which is why so many of us get that hot root after 3 weeks. I switched my gray clients to 10 volume with a 1:1 ratio and a 35 minute cap, and my rebook comments about fading basically dried up. My Tuesday client with 60 percent gray actually asked if I used a new line. Anyone else played with lower volume for gray, or am I late to this party?
