Heard a client say box dye is just as good as salon color and had to bite my tongue
Was working on a balayage in my chair last Friday when this girl tells me she's been using $8 box dye from CVS for years and can't tell the difference. I showed her a strand test of her ends vs fresh growth under my light and she finally saw how wrecked the cuticle layers are. Anyone else deal with clients who swear drugstore color is the same as what we do?

My neighbor's cousin once told me box dye is "basically the same stuff" they use in salons. I nearly dropped my coffee when she said it. She was dead serious too, not even joking around. So I asked her to bring over a box one time and compared the ingredients list to something I had from a professional line. The difference was nuts, way more ammonia and metallic salts in the drugstore stuff. That buildup thing is real, I've seen color turn green or muddy on clients who used box dye for years.
