Found out acetone can actually damage some gel brushes, not clean them

I always just soaked my gel brushes in pure acetone after each client. Figured it was the fastest way to get the cured gel off. Then I read a post on a cosmetology supply site from a brush maker. They said acetone breaks down the glue holding the bristles in the ferrule over time. Now I use a gentle brush cleaner and only use acetone when it's really caked on. Has anyone else had a good brush fall apart after months of acetone soaks?

Oh man, that is rough. I had a similar thing happen with a liner brush I used for nail art. Loved that brush, it was perfect for tiny details, and after a few months of acetone soaks the bristles just started sliding out of the metal handle. It's heartbreaking when you lose a tool you're used to, especially mid-application. I still feel your pain on that one.

Learned this the hard way after my favorite brush literally shed its bristles mid-application lol.
